Kinder in Makulubita

Construction of a school in Bulamba

Basic education for the children in Makulubita Sub-County, Luweero district in Uganda.

Aim and Goal of the Project:

Rebuild the existing primary schools (3) in Makulubita Sub-County and establish a vocational training centre.

Situation at Hand

Access to primary education is one of the Millennium Development Goals. CLEAN-Africa supports the people in Makulubita, Luweero district in Uganda and their children to obtain basic education and vocational training. So far there are 3 primary schools in Makulubita Sub-County (an area that was completely destroyed during the civil war of the 1980’S). These schools cannot be rebuilt by the parents because of the low economic status in this region (here an average family earns less than $ 1Dollar per month). There is a lack of teaching materials, trained teachers, and thus are less than 10% of the children go beyond the elementary schools.

Connection with other Projects:

Sustainable poverty alleviation.

What makes this Project so important?

Knowledge is power. Without education, development is unimaginable.

Project Difficulties

Besides the long way children have to take to school, the parents must be convinced of the necessity of basic education for their children.

Project Risks

Students flooding the schools with insufficient number classrooms.

Project start

The project is expected to start by September 2009.

The Project is not intended for:

Supporting individual children. Intended is a community asset and basic service.
